Federal appeals court rules debit card swipe fees must be reduced
A federal appeals court has ruled that debit card swipe fees must come down, finding that the Federal Reserve had allowed the fees to be set too high. Retailers currently pay banks 21 cents plus a fraction of each sale's value per debit transaction — fees that totaled more than $40 billion last year, according to NPR.
