Coastal erosion and insurance gaps threaten waterfront homes nationwide

According to NPR, waterfront houses are collapsing across the United States due to coastal erosion and sea level rise. NPR reports that Dare County, North Carolina, is a particular hotspot, where more than 30 homes have fallen into the ocean since 2020, including one as recently as this past summer. The report finds that approximately 100 additional homes there remain threatened, with insurance and policy gaps leaving most without plans for evacuation or removal of personal belongings before they fall.
