The Wall Street Journal reports that mudlarking — scavenging the River Thames for historical artifacts at low tide — has surged in popularity in London, leaving more than 10,000 people on a permit waitlist. WSJ joined active mudlarks to document how the practice, once an 18th-century survival trade, has become a widespread hobby drawing citizen archaeologists to unearth relics from the riverbed.
