Guadalajara prepares to host 2026 World Cup amid cartel violence concerns

Guadalajara, one of 16 cities hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is also the capital of one of Mexico's most violent states, according to NPR. Cartels have forcibly disappeared people in the region for decades to consolidate control, NPR reports, and families of missing persons continue searching for their loved ones, posting notices in the city center as the city prepares for the international tournament.
