NPR reports the fish can grow several feet long and devastate regional tourism and boating industries by consuming their way through ecosystems; they have edged increasingly close to Lake Michigan. President Trump had previously directed federal funding toward a barrier at a chokepoint in Illinois before issuing an unexplained stop-work order.
