Texas Supreme Court dismisses 2021 winter storm lawsuits against power generators without explanation
The Texas Supreme Court ended five separate appeals filed by tens of thousands of residents and businesses suing power generators including Centerpoint Energy and NRG Texas for failures during the February 2021 winter storm that killed hundreds and caused billions in damages. The court issued no written ruling or explanation for dismissing the cases. Power companies that claimed the storm was abnormal and unforeseeable have now won immunity from liability. Residents who lost power, faced medical emergencies, or suffered property damage will receive no compensation from the generators responsible for the grid failure.
